Wayne's Jackpotjoy Review

Jackpotjoy is one of my favourite bingo sites, simply because their games look great, they're so simple to use and they don't have unreasonable wagering rules and hoops you have to jump through to get your money. I've always been paid out instantly with little fuss, which is always something I look for in a bingo site.

The chat hosts are some of the best too, which isn't something I usually focus on, but having been to their chat host studio in Stoke-on-Trent I have seen first hand the set up there, including the live studio which allows them to broadcast fun quizzes and other shows, such as Chat AM, directly into the big rooms.

The site is the flagship brand on the Gamesys platform, which means it gets a little more love than any of the sister sites such as Heart Bingo. There are loads of slots and casino games you can play too, including exclusive Gamesys slot games that have been developed in-house, and therefore you may not have seen before.

Jackpotjoy is one of the rare sites that does Session Bingo really well, so if you want that real bingo hall experience online, this is as close as you're going to get. The only downside for me is that some of the really cool games, such as Crystal Maze Bingo, have had features removed of late, which means there isn't really much to them other than a different background design.

Other than that, there isn't a lot to complain about, which is why Jackpotjoy makes it into my Top 10 Best Bingo Sites for 2020.

Bingo Rooms

Jackpotjoy runs on the Gamesys bingo platform which mainly has 90 ball games, although they do have some 75 ball and 80 ball is available as part of Session Bingo games. They also have a few rooms that were once interesting variants, such as Crystal Maze and Game Show Bingo, but at some point the features that made these rooms unique have been removed.

Despite that the bingo rooms are great and they're one of the best around for mobile bingo experience. Here are the rooms you can find at JPJ:

In addition to bingo there is obviously slots, but also casino, instants, free games and poker.

Session Bingo

If you're used to playing bingo in your local club, then you'll probably like the Session Bingo room they have at Jackpotoy.

Session Bingo works in the same way as you would in a real bingo hall, you buy a bundle of tickets for £5. This gets you an hour of bingo, 15 games in total. There is a mix of 90, 80 and 75 ball bingo played in each session and it works out cheaper than buying tickets to all the games individually.

There are four sessions per day:

  • Morning: 10.00am - 11.00am
  • Afternoon: 3.00pm - 4.00pm
  • Evening: 7.00pm - 8.00pm
  • Twilight: 11.00pm - midnight

Just head to the dedicated Session Bingo room if you wish to take part.

Daily Free Games

One of the great things about Jackpotjoy is that there are a number of daily free games you can play each week that work as a little incentive to come back to the site every day. Although they say 'free', they're only free to players who have made a deposit of £10 in their lifetime. So essentially once you're a depositing player, they will be free to you forever.

There are four free games in total, and each works on the basis that you get one go every day, and by the end of the week your aim is to collect various things to win a prize.

  • Doubly Bubbly
  • Tiki's Catch of the Day
  • Rainbow Riches Daily Bonus
  • Daily Paper

You can only choose one of these games per week and each week begins on a Monday. So if you try one this week you'll have to wait until Monday next week to try a different one.

Simply click on 'Free' from the main menu to find and play your chosen game.

How to join Jackpotjoy

To register at Jackpotjoy simply click on the big 'Join Now' button on the landing page or in the top right on your screen. This will open up the registration page where you must enter some basic details about yourself and choose a username and password.

During registration your name, address and DOB details will be automatically checked to prove your ID and specifically to check you are over 18. If for any reason your details fail these automated checks you may be asked for additional proof of ID, such as a photo of your drivers license and a recent utility bill. It doesn't happen too often, but if it does don't worry, just follow the instructions and pass on the additional ID required.

UK Gambling legislation changes now mean sites have to verify your ID before you are allowed to join and make a deposit. These requirements are the same for all sites, not just Jackpotjoy.

Jackpotjoy login

Jackpotjoy places a cookie on your browser when you've signed up, so each time you go to the site it knows you are an existing player and immediately pops up the login form.

You can sign in with either your username or your email address, along with your password. This is good as sometimes if you've not been on for a while you may forget your username. If you're using the Jackpotjoy app you can also login using fingerprint or FaceID if your phone has these features.

How to find the bingo games

When you login you'll appear on the main Jackpotjoy home page. This does have some 'suggested for you' games at the top that you can scroll through, but if you want to see all of the bingo rooms you'll have to click on the 'Bingo' link at the top. All the different options such as bingo, slots, casino, poker, etc is available along the top of the screen - if you're on mobile you'll have to swipe to see all of the options you can choose.

Once you're on the main bingo page, you'll see a slider with various promos at the top and then all of the different bingo rooms available as you scroll down. On mobile you tap the game you want and then press the play now button that appears. On desktop this button appears when you hover over each game. You can also select the 'more info' link to read a brief overview of the game and some how to play instructions.

How to make a deposit at Jackpotjoy

If you're on mobile, you'll always see a deposit button in the top right corner of your screen. On desktop it is also in the top right on any of the pages where you can play games (so not the promos page or play responsibly page). You can also go to menu > my account > deposit funds.

Clicking on the deposit button will open a popover where you can choose from one of the following deposit methods:

  • Debit Card
  • PayPal
  • Apple Pay (only on supporting iOS and macOS devices)

PayPal can't be used to make your first deposit, but can for any other redeposit. I assume this is because of anti-money laundering rules. Also, only one payment method may be registered to one Jackpotjoy account, so I guess that means if you have a shared bank account and your partner also plays at Jackpotjoy, it may not allow you both to deposit on the same card.

The minimum deposit amount at Jackpotjoy is £10, and if you ever want to change your deposit method you cannot do this until your balance is less than £1 and any withdrawals pending have cleared.

How to withdraw your winnings

You can withdraw winnings at any time, so long as you have over the minimum withdrawal amount of £10 and have no wagering requirements left to meet on any bonuses.

To make a withdrawal simply click on Menu > My Account > Withdraw > Withdraw (don't ask me why you have to click this twice!). You will then see a screen with your playing balance and your withdrawable balance. If these two values differ then it could be that you still have some wagering to do on your playing balance.

Enter the amount you wish to withdraw and then click the 'confirm' button.

How quickly you get your winnings depends on the deposit method and whether or not it is a bank holiday. Jackpotjoy will process your withdrawal request within 4-24 hours, after which it is down to the individual deposit methods own clearing times before you get payment. E-wallets such as PayPal have no clearing times so you get your money much faster with these methods.

  • Visa Debit Card: 24-48 hours
  • PayPal: Instant
  • Bank Account: 2-5 working days

Free Bingo at Jackpotjoy

There isn't a set free bingo room at Jackpotjoy but I have noticed that sometimes they have promotions whereby you can get free bingo in some of the regular rooms at certain times.

For example, in November 2020 when I was first writing this review they had free bingo games in Crystal Maze Bingo at 5 past, 25 past, 25 to and 5 to the hour between 10.00am - 6.00pm. Then from 6.00pm - 10.00pm the same schedule of free bingo took place in the Blox Bingo room.

The only catch was that you had to have spent £2 on bingo tickets in the 7 days prior in order to play. Make sure you go to the promotions page and then select bingo planner to get the latest information.

Does Jackpotjoy have an app?

Yes. There is a dedicated bingo app for Jackpotjoy available on both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.

What are Powerbolts?

Powerbolts is a must drop jackpot feature available in the main bingo room at Jackpotjoy, which is Sapphire Bingo. It features two jackpots; a Maxi Bolt which can be won once daily, and a Mini Bolt which can be won multiple times throughout the day.

Both jackpots are progressive, so they will grow throughout the day too. Plus, once the Maxi Bolt jackpot has been won, all contributions go into the Mini Bolt jackpots, so they then start to grow quicker until the Maxi Bolt starts again at midnight. You can tell if the Maxi Bolt has been won as it will say 'From 12am' next to it in the bingo room, rather than showing the jackpot amount.

Maxi Bolt - Once Daily Jackpot

Maxi Bolt is a once daily linked jackpot, to which a small percentage of each player’s ticket price contributes towards the jackpot amount until it is won.

The Maxi Bolt must be won by 10pm every day. This starts from midnight with a ball condition of 38 which gradually increases by a few numbers as the hours roll by, making it easier for players to win the jackpot. If no one has won the jackpot by the 9:55pm game, that game's ball condition will be set to 90 balls, guaranteeing that the jackpot will be won on that game.

Maxi Bolt is a linked jackpot across all the Jackpotjoy sister sites. You can see exactly how many balls are needed to trigger the Maxi Bolt at the top of the game before you buy tickets.

Mini Bolt Jackpots

Mini Bolts is a non linked jackpot that can only be won by players at Jackpotjoy. A small percentage of each player’s ticket price contributes to the Mini Bolt jackpot amount.

The Mini Bolt jackpot has a higher ball condition that's fixed and does not change, this means the jackpot will likely be won multiple times throughout the day. Once won, the Mini Bolt will then start again in the next game.

If the larger Maxi Bolt jackpot has been won, the player contribution from the Maxi Bolt will now go into the Mini Bolt, meaning these jackpots become bigger, faster. This boosted state stays active until the Maxi Bolt starts again at midnight.

Superlinks Bingo

Jackpotjoy has special bingo room called Superlinks. This room is permanently linked with all the sister sites belonging to Gamesys Group, such as Heart Bingo, in order to provide bigger prize pots. Games play every 5 minutes, but there are special linked games that play every 30 minutes that link up with other rooms at Jackpotjoy, not just those sister sites.

Tickets in superlinks are 25p on the hourly game and 10p on the half-past game. If you're in any of the other rooms you will find the room suddenly changes into the superlinks design, the game plays out and then it changes back to the original room. If you're new to Jackpotjoy this sudden change can sometimes take you by surprise.

Playoff Palace Bingo

Jackpotjoy has a couple of bingo rooms called Playoff Palace Daily and Playoff Palace Weekly. These rooms are basically free bingo games with decent prizes, but to get entry you've got to win one of the qualifying games first (see details below).

The daily games start at 8.45pm each day with prizes of:

  • 1 Line: £20
  • 2 Lines: £40
  • Full House: £100

The weekly games start at 9.15pm every Sunday with 5 games in total. The prize money increases each game.

  • Game 1: £125 for 1L, 2L & FH
  • Game 2: £125 for 1L, 2L & FH
  • Game 3: £250 for 1L, 2L & FH
  • Game 4: £250 for 1L, 2L & FH
  • Game 5: £500 for 1L, £1000 for 2L & FH

How to qualify for Playoff Palace Bingo

There are two rooms where you can win qualifying tickets: Sapphire Bingo and Session Bingo.

Sapphire: Any Bingo win in Sapphire (excluding Superlinks) between 12.05am - 12:59am and 7.00am - 7.59pm awards Playoff Palace tickets.
Session: Any Bingo win during the afternoon (3.00pm) or evening (7.00pm) Session awards PP tickets. The morning (10.00am) and twilight (11.00pm) sessions do not award PP tickets.

Playoff Palace tickets cannot be won from a free game, linked game or if you have won a progressive jackpot including the new Mini Bolt jackpot.

You know you have won tickets when you can see the 'PP' display next to the names of winning players. When you win Playoff Palace tickets the screen will display 12 tickets won - 6 tickets for both of that evening's game and 6 tickets for each of the 5 weekly games on a Sunday. If the screen displays only 6 tickets won, it's because you already have max (72) tickets for the weekly game.

Poker Games

Poker isn't something usually associated with bingo players. We are more likely to cross over to slots than poker, which is why practically no bingo site at all has a poker section, except of course Gamesys sites.

Jackpotjoy's poker lobby is set up in a way that is very appealing to new players who perhaps have never played poker before. There are tutorial videos that explain how to play no limit Texas Hold'em, and the lowest stake 'table' is set at just £1 buy-in. All players get 400 chips to bet with and prizes are random depending on what is hidden in your box. If you win, you get to open the box.

I had a go in the £1 table and found it really fun, even if I did come second place after going all-in when my opponent had a flush! Once you get the hang of it there are loads of different tables at different prices you can try, as well as tournaments and so forth. Definitely give it a little look, I enjoyed it!

Who owns Jackpotjoy?

The company who owns Jackpotjoy has changed hands, had mergers and changed names a few times over the years, it is difficult to keep up! The current parent company is now known as Gamesys Group Plc, but their UK license is held by Gamesys Operations Limited and day to day operations managed by Mice & Dice Limited. Their HQ is in London but they also have an office in Newcastle Under Lyme, which is where all their chat hosts are located.

If you have to get in touch with Jackpotjoy for any reason it will be the guys at Mice & Dice who you'll end up speaking to as they handle customer support.

How to contact Jackpotjoy

There is an in-depth support section at Jackpotjoy which has a detailed FAQ which should solve most common problems. You can find this by going to Menu > Help & FAQ.

If you really need to speak to someone or send a message, look for the blue 'help' icon that should be in the bottom right corner. At first it may be hard to see as it is positioned on a blue background. On mobile it looks like a little speech bubble. Click it and type out your issue. It will try and give you an FAQ link to solve your problem. If it doesn't help, click 'live chat' and follow the instructions to speak to an advisor.

Alternatively, you can call them on freephone 0800 458 0770.
